Xpand Active Shutter

Like other 3D methods available today XPANDactive shutter method also relies on the human stereopsis – ability to see the depth if two images of the same object are given.

To separate the two images XPAND technology doesn’t effect the image or the light, but uses alternating shuttering of the lenses: at the rate not seen with naked eye XPAND technology makes sure that the right eye is blocked in the moment when the left eye image is shown and vice versa. XPAND’s 3D Glasses are a hi-tech device, not just a disposable piece of plastic like most of the passive glasses.

The synchronization between the projector and the glasses is done by synchronization signal emitter that can use any available signal – the most common is infrared (cinema, 3D TV sets), white light (DLP Link projectors) or any RF signal. In cinema environment (see scheme on the right) no silver screen is needed and instalation of a 3D theater takes approximately one hour.

The result of XPAND 3D technology in any of applications (cinema, plasma TVs, LCD TVs, DLP projectors, computer display…) is the brightest and crispiest image, no ghosting, widest viewing angle – even with the largest of the screens.

All of the consumer 3DTVs shipping today use active shutter glasses, and while this means they are heavier, we also believe it delivers a superior 3D experience — that is, of course, until someone ships a consumer 3D set with passive glasses that proves us wrong.
